"Have yourself a merry little Christmas" - Tricia Thompson

Long Buckby WI is a local charity, registered with the Charities Commission and was founded in March 1922.   We would best be described as a mixed group of ladies with a variety of interests  ranging from the traditional WI crafts of cooking, embroidery and jam making  through to health walks, theatre and shopping trips!  The common link is an active interest in life in general and women’s interests in particular.   We hold a monthly meeting where we are joined by inspirational  speakers and guests. There are many sub-groups planned for the  group, where members can learn new skills and crafts enjoying a social gathering  at the same time. There will always be something new to try and members can be  as actively involved as they wish.

As part of the Northamptonshire County Federation of WI’s (NCFWI), you also have the opportunity to attend their organised craft tasters/courses and outings.  The National Federation of WI’s (NFWI) run courses at Denman College in Oxfordshire.  The courses cover a huge range of interests, and can be over a day or long weekend.  A group of us (20) went in 2013, and had a great weekend learning Italian cookery and lifestyle choices.

There are no set criteria for joining our  group, just come along to one of our meetings and find out what we are all  about. The first 2 visits are on us and then its up to you whether you would  like to join up which will cost only £41 per year (the 2018 subscription).

The Women's Institute, which was formed in 1915, is the largest  organisation for women in the UK with 215,000 members in 7,000 W.I's please see here for more information regarding the National and County Federations.
